The Department of Chemistry was established in the academic year 1965-66. However, Chemistry Honours was started in 1970-71. The P.G. Programme in Chemistry was launched in the session 1988-89, and M.Phil. Programme was introduced in 2017-18. During the last 55 years of journey, the Department has crystallized the potential of a large number of alumni those who have brought name and fame to the Department. The M. Phil. students of this Department have done new research works for framing their dissertation in the fields of Nano-materials, Surface Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry, etc. The syllabi of both U.G. and P.G. have been revised at par with the national level educational institutions imparting higher education in chemistry.
