The Botany Department came into existence when B. Sc. (Pass) Course was introduced in the academic session 1967-68. Students availed the opportunities of studying honours in Botany from the session 1972-73. P. G. Course in Botany started to be taught from the session 1983-84. To initiate students into research fields, M. Phil. Course was also opened in the session 2017-18. In1983-84, the P.G. Course was designed according to the traditional systems, but since 2018-19, the syllabus was revised, and it has been following the CBCS method since then.
The alumni of this Department have so far achieved success in a wide range of fields, and have been successfully making their ways in different professional domains.
