B.Sc. program in Biological Science was started in 1967-68 at Rajendra College, Bolangir, but the Zoology Honours program was launched during the 1974-1975 academic session under Sambalpur University. The Master’s Degree program was launched during the 1994-1995 session, and M.Phil. program was opened during 2017-2018. The department has progressed from a Undergraduate Department to a fully developed Post-Graduate Department during the last 53 years, and is now a Post-Graduate Department as well as research centre in biological sciences of the newly established Rajendra University from the 2020-2021 academic session. The M. Sc. program is being revised under the CBCS scheme of the UGC to meet students’ expectations and fulfill the department’s vision and mission.
As a Post-Graduate Department, it is credited with producing a number of students as high-achievers in the professional domains. The alumni of this department are placed as teachers, scientists, and administrators and some of them are now working in various universities and many research laboratories of national reputation.
