The Physics Department of the University is as old as the other general science departments. B.Sc. Physics class started at Rajendra College in the academic year 1965-66. Honours courses in Physics began from 1970-71, and the intake capacity is 32. The Master’s Degree program was opened in the 2017-18 academic session , and it has an annual intake capacity of 16 students. Being an Autonomous College, the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) was already there in the undergraduate programme, whereas that was introduced in the Master’s Degree from the 2018-19 academic session. Opening the Master’s Degree programme and platforms for research under the University has paved the way for procuring new equipment which have enriched the laboratory with modern setups. Specially, the computer laboratory of the Department makes the students acquire knowledge on computation, spin speed on data storage and latency, and marketable applications which became a basic need for understanding many phenomena in Physics. Conduction of regular seminars is a part of the Departmental activities. Many alumni of this department are well established as professors, engineers, researchers, and engaged in many other professions, and thus proved themselves to be a part of the development of human society.
Vision
To take the lead in propagating the study of physical sciences both at national and international levels, and provide state-of-the-art facilities to the students as well as scholars to rely on the teaching and learning activities at par with other universities in the country
Mission
• To make the teaching and learning of physics one of the preferable subjects
• Strive to maintain higher standard research useful for solving local as well as global problems
• To help spread a scientific culture
